Many good teachers can help a gifted beginner build the basis of a technique; extraordinary teachers are better approached, IMHO, once the singer has a good basic technique and is really ready to take flight. (It is also more likely that a "star" teacher's musical connections will be of help to a more proficient, more career-ready singer.) >>
I believe that a young singer should go to the very best teacher that is available. With a well known teacher there will be less a chance of starting out badly.
