Welcome to the list, Lisa-Marie.
You'll find many job ops in Chicago...temping
in any capacity is available (especially if you're
literate in MS excel, MS word, MS Access &
Visual Basic) & there are just as many clerical
& basic financial temp ops. As well as the usual
restaurant gigs in a city that has a huge, huge
array of restaurants, lounges, grills & bars in
the city & its surrounding suburbs.

Check the web site for the Chicago Tribune:
www.chicagotribune.com for jobs & opportunities.

Another periodical to check is the weekly:
Chicago Reader (I don't think there's a web page,
but a search in a search engine might produce
results). It's kind of like the Village Voice (except it's free)
& the reason I liken it to the Voice is because of it "artsy",
avant-garde, literary & liberal points of view...good reading
material, imo.

Two periodicals for the fine arts & musical theater & show biz are:
Audition News & PerformInk. The Vocalist Archives
have their addresses & telephone numbers as I posted
this information a couple of years ago (and since I
don't have access to a pc right now...I'm on a HPC...
...I can't retrieve that info for you). Try searching by
typing "Audition News" or "performink"...you'll find
the archives & search engine within the Vocalist excellent!!
This is how I found extremely helpful information on
formants, ring, ping & squillo posted by one of the most
valuable assets this list possesses: Dr. Lloyd Hanson.

You will find many people to sing for - I assure you.
There are many opportunities for auditioning in the
smaller opera companies, union & non-union musical
theater companies. An added advantage is that you'll
be closer to other metropolitan areas in order to
audition & perform: Detroit, Indianapolis, Milwaukee,
St. Louis, Des Moines, Springfield, Peoria etc.
You will also have the opportunity to audition for
national touring companies & other regional opera companies
as they come through this vast metropolitan area, set out
their shingle & let you strut your stuff.

In my opinion - the opportunities are much greater for a
younger or polished singer/actor in this city than any other city
mentioned in a previous thread: Boston, New York & yes,
even San Francisco. Well, at least the chances for success
(or failure) are greater! Good Luck to you!!
