Ingo: I read the link too. Here are my thoughts:

I'm no medical expert, but have seen videos of the vocal chords, taken
with a small camera inserted either through the nose or throat. I recall
that coughing is really rough on the chords. To me, it looked painfully
rough and potentially damaging, and ever since then, I have been very
careful with coughing (just recovered from a 2 week cough/cold myself)

hehehe. well if you are in a noisy environment, you are likely to talk
loud, and not even notice the strain on your voice, over the din.

That's most of what I have to say, at this time of night. Others will
have more imput i'm sure.
